Storekeeper Role Overview
Energy People is searching for a Storekeeper who will work full-time and onsite. The role is based in Rivers State and is part of the Engineering, Technical, Procurement, and Supply Chain field.
The ideal candidate will bring strong experience, high attention to detail, and a good understanding of technical materials used in oil and gas operations.
This Storekeeper will support smooth maintenance operations and contribute to efficient stock management across the terminal.
To succeed in this role, the candidate must understand storage procedures, materials handling, and safety guidelines.
Since the terminal manages sensitive and sometimes hazardous items, the Storekeeper must follow the right storage standards at all times.
The person in this position will also work closely with maintenance and procurement teams, and this makes communication very important.
Qualifications
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- A degree in Applied Sciences, Engineering, or a related field.
- Relevant certifications and strong experience in laboratory or technical operations.
- A minimum of seven years working in a similar role within an industrial or energy environment.
These requirements ensure that the candidate is familiar with technical materials and understands how to handle safety-sensitive inventory.
Job Description
The Storekeeper will manage daily operations in the technical store. This involves receiving materials, keeping accurate records, organizing inventory, and ensuring that the store runs smoothly.
Because the role supports maintenance activities, it is important to always monitor stock levels and make sure materials are available when needed.
Below are the main responsibilities of the role:
- Receive, inspect, and confirm technical materials delivered to the terminal, ensuring that they match purchase orders and quality standards.
- Record all stock information using ERP or inventory management systems. These records include quantities, batch numbers, shelf life, and reorder levels.
- Arrange materials according to safety rules. This includes the proper storage of hazardous items such as chemicals, LPG equipment spares, sealants, gaskets, and other sensitive materials.
- Issue materials based on approved requisitions and keep complete records of all stock movements.
- Keep track of stock levels and inform the Maintenance Manager on time when items need replenishment, so operations do not face delays.
- Carry out physical stock counts regularly and reconcile differences immediately. Any discrepancies must be reported as soon as they are noticed.
- Maintain the right storage conditions to protect materials from corrosion, damage, or contamination.
- Keep the store secure, clean, and well-organized to ensure proper accountability and easy tracing of all items.
- Work with the Procurement team to monitor incoming supplies, confirm delivery dates, and resolve any supply issues quickly.
- Manage the return, repair, and warranty processes for materials or equipment that require servicing outside the terminal.
These tasks help maintain the overall efficiency of the store and ensure that the maintenance team has access to the right items at the right time.
Why the Storekeeper Role Matters
The store is a critical part of any technical or energy environment, and the Storekeeper plays a major role in keeping operations smooth.
When materials are well-tracked and well-organized, it becomes easier for maintenance technicians to work without interruption.
Additionally, the accurate management of hazardous materials protects both people and equipment.
Because oil and gas facilities depend on technical components, even small delays in retrieving materials can slow down operations.
A proactive Storekeeper prevents such delays by planning ahead, monitoring stock, and working closely with other departments.
Furthermore, proper documentation supports audits and strengthens the company’s overall compliance.
Another important part of the job is maintaining the right safety and storage standards. For example, chemicals and sensitive equipment require controlled environments.
When the Storekeeper follows these guidelines, risks drop and the quality of work improves. This also extends the lifespan of materials, reducing waste and saving costs.
Working Relationships
The Storekeeper will interact with different teams within the terminal. One of the closest working relationships will be with the Maintenance Manager.
Both roles depend on clear communication, especially when scheduling repairs or ordering new parts.
The Procurement team is another group the Storekeeper will engage with often. Together, they verify delivery timelines and ensure that all incoming items meet expectations.
This coordination helps the organization avoid unnecessary delays.
Because the role requires accurate reporting, the Storekeeper will also work with administrative and audit teams when necessary. Their reports support compliance checks and help maintain transparency.
