Trama Tecno Ambiental is looking for a Senior Project Manager and Energy Expert to join its Africa Unit.

This role involves reporting to the Africa Team Leader and coordinating a variety of projects. The selected candidate will also develop new consulting services that match client needs and project goals.

Most assignments will focus on sustainable energy topics such as renewable energy systems, energy efficiency, and energy access using off-grid solutions and mini grids.

Key Responsibilities

  • Project Management

The Senior Project Manager will guide the full project process. This includes monitoring the timeline, supervising the budget, and making sure the team meets all required deadlines.

The position also involves working closely with external partners and maintaining regular communication with clients through meetings, calls, and field visits.

This role requires preparation of project deliverables, including technical reports and documents needed to complete each stage of the assignment.

These materials must be submitted on time and be clear, accurate, and well-written.

There will also be moments when travel to project locations becomes necessary. Field missions help the manager understand on-site conditions and ensure that planned activities run smoothly.

  • Technical Responsibilities

The job also includes various technical tasks. Acting as an owner’s engineer, the candidate will advise private and public clients on project planning, operations, tender processes, and construction.

They will review technical documents, financial proposals, and support negotiations with selected contractors.

The role also involves supervising the release of grants and offering technical assistance to those carrying out the projects.

Requirements for the role of a Senior Project Manager

The perfect candidate should meet the following criteria:

  • Educational Background: A master’s degree in engineering, economics, or a related field.
  • Work Experience: At least eight years of experience in sustainable energy and development. Out of these, five years should be focused on energy access or project management.
  • International Experience: Experience working in developing countries, especially in Africa.
  • Languages: Strong command of English and French.
  • Project Management Skills: Knowledge of tools and methods used to manage projects.
  • Computer Skills: Strong skills in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.

Additional Advantages

Although not mandatory, the following qualities and experiences would be helpful:

  • Educational Background: Extra training in renewable energy, sustainable development, or energy access.
  • Work Experience: Experience with PV systems, energy access programs, energy efficiency projects, or small hydro systems. (Experience in consultancy for issues such as regulations, policy, or project finance in renewable energy is also valuable)
  • International Experience: Work with global development institutions like the World Bank, UN agencies, or international development banks.
  • Languages: Knowledge of Spanish or Portuguese.
